At least four families have sued infant formula maker ByHeart, alleging their babies developed botulism from contaminated formula. The company confirmed that tests detected Clostridium botulinum spores in its product and is working with the FDA on a recall and investigation.
According to the FDA, 31 infants across 15 states have suspected or confirmed botulism, all requiring hospitalization but with no deaths reported.
Families describe terrifying hospital stays, including babies needing IVs and feeding tubes. One mother, Hanna Everett, said her 2-month-old daughter Piper fell ill and was later diagnosed with botulism after consuming formula from a recalled batch.
